Wood Shavings Moisture

Measuring moisture in wood shavings product plays an important role in the overall process. If moisture is too high, low quality or wet material is produced. If moisture is too low, energy has been wasted in over-drying. Sometimes, production or further processing may be stopped altogether if moisture is not at optimal levels.

Continual, accurate measurement is the best way to ensure high-quality wood shavings product consistently. It is much easier to detect and proactively address problems this way, while also saving money.

At MoistTech, we are proud that our state-of-the-art wood shavings moisture gauge helps our customers produce the highest quality product for their customers.

Installation

For best results, install your wood shavings moisture sensor several inches above the conveyor belt. Don’t worry, our unique sensor allows for accurate readings even with small gaps in product flow. Our sensor allows for both manual and automatic monitoring throughout the process.

Moist Tech also provides a viewing area for real time process measurement through developed sample systems and optical windows using sapphire optics. You can view more details about this process in our section in sampling technology.

Environment

Our wood shavings moisture gauge functions well in dusty environments. If your particular environment produces an extreme amount of dust, however, we recommend installing an Air Purge System to keep your sensor dust free and functioning accurately. It is also possible that if you’ve needed to install your sensor in a high-heat area, like close to the dryer outlet, you’ll need to cool the sensor with either air or water.

Benefits of a Wood Shavings Moisture Gauge:

The experienced MoistTech staff understands the wood shavings moisture sensing process in your manufacturing needs. Our sensor calibrations, measurement wavelengths, algorithms and sensor optical requirements are pre-set at the factory. Typical accuracy is about ±0.1% moisture. Typical analog range is 0-20% moisture. The outputs can be adjusted to optimize PLC or recording requirements.
